Greetings friends! It’s been a long time; we’ve been out of work since the middle of March.  This situation has been a hardship as well as a blessing.  Susan and I have gotten a taste of what retirement might be like as we have been traveling a lot in our Motorhome and visiting great places this country has to offer.  We recently returned from Gettysburg. We even took a picture with Abe Lincoln, of course that is after I placed a mask on him too!

It would be good to have help when I am able to return to completing projects but I have not been successful in finding that help. When I return, it will have to be for small projects that don’t require some of the physical exertions that a helper would perform. Unless there is a second wave, I am expecting this governor to remove the mask requirements on businesses like mine right after the election.  You see, even if you and I both agree for us to not wear masks, businesses are mandated to wear masks when visiting peoples homes.

I cannot wear a mask for long periods with my underlying conditions. For those that do not know, among other things, I have had, since birth, a paralyzed, left diaphragm that is necessary for my lung to operate at full capacity. It is stuck in the up position and therefore does not allow for that lung to fully inflate. So, normally, I am a bit short of oxygen. When I add a mask and I’m that much more short of my daily need.

Unless the governor does not remove the masks mandate on businesses, I plan to start the completion of already started projects shortly after Thanksgiving.  After that, probably in December, I will begin setting appointments with those who requested to be on the list to contact for new projects. Albeit, those new projects will have to be small jobs that don’t require a second person and some other limitations.  I’ll have to evaluate each project as I look at them. There are even some existing projects that I will not be able to return to until I find a helper due to these same physical limitations.

God bless you all, God bless the USA!

It’s been another few weeks and this thing is still crippling us! The gov has re-instituted shutdowns on some restaurants and bars and large gatherings – my goodness, we are no longer free to worship as we did before!

I’m still receiving calls, voice mails, emails, and text about working.  I am not carrying my business phone with me on some of our trips so I will not see or hear any messages while I’m away.  When we are close to starting up again, I will begin to monitor all electronic communication methods. Until then, please look here for the latest info on our status.

Susan and I are traveling in our RV (Motorhome) until it’s time to restart the business with the doctor’s permission.

I’ll keep this short as I just wanted everyone to be assured that, at some point, I will start up again but it may be limited to smaller projects and only certain types of projects.  I am still interviewing for help so that when we start-up, we can do almost everything we did before.  Without that help, however, my limitations will significantly reduce the types of projects we can take on.

I will post again and hopefully that post will give us a date.

Kind Personal Regards,

George

Please stay safe and healthy!

We’ve finally reached the governor’s Green Phase where the in-person business is “allowed” to be conducted as long as the health rules are strictly adhered to by all involved.  That’s great for those that can work that way.  Restaurants can operate at 50% capacity; no gatherings larger than 250, etc. You’ve probably heard all this on the local news. What you haven’t heard is that there are some of us that cannot work following these requisite ordinances. For example, I cannot work for any length of time wearing a mask. With my underlying conditions, I cannot take the additional carbon dioxide that is produced in the mask. I won’t bore you with the other details of my issues, but suffice to say that until there are no health-related restrictions to working, I cannot work.

It’s understandable that people are offering that they will wear masks if I can just come out and do this or that for them. I’d really like to do that, but I cannot. While the cases in our area continue to decline, I anticipate that in late July or early August that I will be able to start up again.  To be fair, projects that were suddenly halted will be my first priority. There are about two weeks of work on those projects.

Next, we will contact those with already approved new projects and schedule them to start. Finally, those requesting new projects and new customer requests will follow. As soon as these things can happen, you will hear from me about your projects.

Thanks for understanding and let’s all look forward to working again under normal circumstances.

Be safe, stay safe & healthy,

George

I hope you are enjoying the beginning of getting to the new normal. It seems that the health officials in our state are now saying that masks will be mandated and or recommended and be a common part of our society for a good number of months. This presents a real problem for certain people.

Those in certain professions would have an extremely difficult time doing their job if masks were required.  Take coffee tasters, wine tasting, mimes, clowns; can you imagine how scary a made-up clown face would be if a mask was also part of the face?

Seriously though, I’m really talking about people with respiratory problems that are not the Wuhan flu.  I’m talking about those that have COPD, asthma, or any non-communicable disease that causes respiratory distress when the air intake is already difficult at best and worsened when mixed with additional carbon dioxide breathed in due to wearing a mask.

Unfortunately, I have a medical condition known as a paralyzed left diaphragm.  For those that don’t know, the diaphragm is what helps the lungs inflate to take in air and helps them deflate to exhale air.  My left lung operates but at a greatly reduced level.  So much so that I must force myself to sleep on my left side so that my fully-functioning right lung can operate, without pressure from the bed, at peak performance when I sleep.

On nights when I don’t notice that I am in any other position for a long time, the next day is pretty useless for me due to being so tired from reduced oxygen intake all night.  This may be TMI (too much information) but I thought it was necessary to let everyone know that I may not be able to return to work until masks are no longer required OR recommended. I can’t take the chance of catching the Wuhan flu which leads to a respiratory issue when I already have one to contend with. Not to mention I am a little over 30 years old (yes I am that old!).  Seriously though, my chances of surviving this strain of the COVID disease are much less than a young, healthy person with no underlying issues.

Masks may no longer be suggested at some point but at the same time, YOU may want to were a mask OR you may want me to wear a mask.  If there is any question about mask-wearing by me, I’m afraid we may no longer be a fit for each other. I pray that you understand.

At this point, I can’t tell you when but I want it to be sooner rather than later.  In the meantime, Susan and I will continue our home projects and taking to the RV to visit other states every few weeks.  So far during this Pandemic, we have visited campgrounds in many places.  We have stayed in the middle of a vineyard Mt. Joy, PA, stayed in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and a whole week in Tennesse.

I’ll keep updating here at least weekly. Take care and stay safe!

We are expecting that in the next few weeks our county, Montgomery and surrounding counties, Chester and Berks will be transitioning from Yellow to Green.  The green stage is when we have decided it is safe for us and therefore we will reopen and begin to set appointments to resume work already started.

As soon as we have that date from daddy gov, we will begin contacting everyone who we’ve heard from and start setting up project dates to complete the projects halted when the state closed us down. I will restate the process as I outlined in the previous posts.

Thanks for understanding that being in the at-risk category myself with three of the underlying health conditions, I must protect myself for the sake of my family and not be in too much of a hurry to return to normal life. As such, we will be following all guidelines for health safety during our visits. While we vehemently disagree that the governor has the authority he has usurped in this pandemic, we will follow his rulings since the courts have also wrongly sided with him. Until they are no longer required, we will be wearing masks to protect you.

We will be asking you for a few things in return.  We will be asking several questions during our confirmation call on the day of our appointment. They are:

  1. In the past 14 days, has anyone that has been in your home been diagnosed with the flu, a cold or tested positive for the Covid-19 virus?
  2. In the past 14 days, has anyone that lives in your home been near anyone that was exhibiting cold, flu or other illness symptoms?
  3. Will you and anyone in your home during our visit also wear masks whenever we need to interact together inside your home?

From the answers to these questions, we will determine if we must reschedule our appointment. The truthful answers will allow us to keep you and ourselves safe during our appointment.

If at any time, we determine that we have been exposed, we will immediately self-quarantine and notify each client that we have visited in the past 14 days. At that moment, all scheduled appointments will be canceled until further notice.

Thank you so much for bearing with this unfortunate situation.  Let’s try to make the best of an uncertain world. Take comfort in knowing that God IS in control.
